St. Anthony & Minneapolis City Directory, 1859-1860

The first dual city directory of St. Anthony and Minneapolis was published in 1860. At that time, the population of the two communities totaled approximately 12,000 people, with 6,700 of them in St. Anthony and 5,300 in Minneapolis.

The directory listed the residents in two separate lists, one for each community. Residents’ names

are grouped alphabetically by the first letter of the last name but are not strictly in alphabetical order within the groups. The directory has been transcribed as it appeared and reflects the rules of style used by printers at that time. We leave it up to you to decide whether someone named Hans Von Shpikensphokenblanggenfungger, whose address appears as "Main Street near the sidewalk," ever existed.
